Match Report: HKCC Ladies B 3-0 Valley C

Another win and another 3 points in the bag for HKCC B this week, keeping us top of the table in the 2nd division!

Undefeated in our first 2 games of the season, we arrived at Happy Valley ready to play our nemesis of last year, Valley C …that’s right, the team that somehow managed to wangle a promotion despite their runner up status!

Fortunately the weather was substantially cooler than the prior week, but we still decided to pace ourselves!

Our “hit happy” opening allowed our opposition to pick off the ball more often than was ideal, but it was typically won back by strong tackles from our nifty forwards such as Janet and Angel, or intercepted further back by midfield stalwarts, Gill and Caro.

Albeit a slow and steady start, we kept the ball in our attacking half. We welcomed new player, Skittle, who proved to be a dab hand in our attacking mid, also picking up and dispersing numerous Valley balls.

When the opportunity arose, we were quick to take advantage of our first penalty corner, with Karen pushing out and Sarah hitting the backboard.

A second penalty corner in relatively close succession, and another goal! This time, a rebound pass followed by a deflection from Karen’s stick on the left hand post.

Valley managed to break away a couple of times, but Jaz’s chance to join the game was quickly scuppered by our solid defense, including Hester, who made a come-back, demonstrating her experience on the pitch with many solid clearances, and of course the calm and composed “foot” at the slightest sign of danger.

Two nil up by half time, and we were most definitely the stronger side …but perhaps playing at an intensity that was not quite up to our coaching duo’s expectations!

However, Michelle immediately stepped up in the second half, fast and fierce, gaining possession and driving our game forward.

We saw plenty of pace and strength from Lousie, whilst Sophie and Toni continued to showcase their speed and agility pushing up the midfield and into the wings.

With the increased intensity came many opportunities, and finally a goal, passed amongst a number of our forwards, but put over the line by our super striker, Holly!

We ended the game with a 3-0 win, making it 3 out of 3 …9 points …8 goals …top of the table! Starting the season as we mean to go on!
