Match Report: HKCC Ladies B 2-0 HKFC F

From the arrival at an ‘arctic’ HKFC, HKCC Ladies B knew what the mission was; win and remain top of the league! Following strong guidance from our ‘Mo-Bro’ collective, coaches Chris and Ash, we executed on the plan and ran out 2-0 winners against a competitive Dino’s team with plenty of experience.

The game started slowly with HKCC ladies taking some time to adjust to the ‘winter’ weather and not showing our typical hunger. This might also have been a function of the late kick off and the fact we were actually hungry for dinner (or probably beers).

We managed to bring our training into game day, passing around the back from Dreamy to the backs where Sarah, Caro and Lou all had some great drives down the sidelines into our midfield and then onto the forwards, frustratingly none of the early plays were converted into a goal.

Jas had some great, athletic saves to avoid the opposition scoring, but to our disappointment and despite some great opportunities we didn’t get on the board either with the first half finishing 0-0.

The half time talk was all about stepping up the pace, playing at the level we knew we were capable of, getting to the ball early, and most importantly getting on the scoreboard.

Cheers from the adjacent rugby pitch helped to motivate the team to start the second half strongly and within 7 minutes, a great hit by Zoe who had been drafted in from the C’s, flew into the circle where K-Rose was eagerly waiting to convert the play. GOAL! HKCC were finally on the board and the cheer from the sidelines was finally for us.

With the momentum building and the plays coming together, another goal seemed imminent, although K-Rose’s swashbuckling effort was ultimately disallowed.

Oh well, with the cheers getting louder we kept up the pressure with the speed of our midfield of Gill, Vivian, & Toni we attacked strongly to ensure we retained possession and inched closer to try and score again.

Finally, after some back and forth between what seemed like the forwards warming up the opposing goalie - Janet, goalie, K-Rose, goalie, until Skittle was finally able to finish the play. GOAL!

With our other forwards of Michelle and Angel, also fighting to get on the scoresheet, we were unlucky not to be rewarded with more goals. HKCC Ladies B coming away with a 2-0 victory.

A great, hard fought win, and most importantly we remain top of our division at the half way mark in the season. Keep up the great team work ladies!
