SCAA Causeway Bay Pirates Vs Gai Wu

Julian Buck

8 October 2016

[The] Pirates got another W [win] on the board with a 27-7 victory against Gai Wu Japanese. The support play was outstanding, and defence solid once more. Some amazing flair #moreflair including some champagne rugby from ageless Joe Mayega taking on 8 players, whilst a 90m try started with a cross field kick by Etienne successfully fielded by Keith, who fended 2 players before offloading out the backdoor after a winding 40m dash to open up another score under the posts. A great victory for CWB [Causeway Bay]. Try scorers: Lucas, Chris, Billy, Kam, Ash. Conversion: Etienne (1).

SCAA Causeway Bay Marines Vs USRC Tigers

The Marines lost 44-3 against USRC Tigers. The score doesn't tell the real story, as the Marines put up a brave fight in their NL5 fixture against the Development side. After some initial missed tackles which saw the concession of early soft tries the team settled down to play some constructive rugby. Considering most players had never played together, the Marines combined well. Man of the match Pun stole the show with his display of ball-carrying and tackling, whilst Ka Fai stole a great deal of ball in the lineout and Fei Wai's incisive runs were another highlight. The Marines showed what they are capable of in the final quarter, dominating both territory and possession. They were camped inside the opposition 22 for most of the quarter, but failed to capitalise as USRC scrambled to defend their line. Overall, it was a spirited loss in the face of a lopsided match up. Kudos to the Contenders who stepped up to play, and to the entire squad for maintaining their discipline in the face of adversity. The Marines' spirits remain high, and they look forward to the next challenge.

SCAA Causeway Bay Contenders Vs Kowloon Development

Week 2 of the men's leagues saw the Contenders open their campaign with a convincing 17-0 victory against Kowloon Development. Tries by Tak, Dicky and Patrick were enough to put daylight between the two teams, Kino adding the extras on one occasion. The Contenders are looking to stamp their mark on their league this year, with structured gameplay being one of their key focus points for the season, this intention was clear during the game. Defensively they stood up to the challenge, and should be feared by all opposition as the season progresses.
