For an authentic rugby experience, look no further than RugbyFest

As April beckons and temperatures rise, Hong Kong will once more become the destination for thousands of fans travelling from across the world, congregating in the city under a common passion for rugby.

While the Sevens' status as the centrepiece remains cemented, one might argue that overpriced Carlsbergs and exorbitant ticket prices is not all an authentic rugby experience consists in.

For some, it is just as important to don a pair of boots and take to the pitch, in addition to taking in the party atmosphere, booze and merrymaking.

Enter the Kowloon RugbyFest - a day-long social rugby tournament featuring an abundance of both.

Since its inception in 2001, the festival has boasted a broad international appeal, attracting teams from Russia, the United States, Australia, South Africa, Laos and even as far as the British Virgin Islands.

The introduction of a Women's tournament alongside the Men's in 2014 has only served to boost the Tournament's popularity, with over 600 attendees transforming King's Park into an international village each year.

Last year's edition saw hosts Kowloon RFC claim the Men's title, with Australian side Ho Bit Hellfish emerging champions in the Women's pool.

Regardless of the outcome, the opportunity to share rugby tales over a beer and then mix it up on the pitch is one that will go down well among the players involved, as it has for the past 17 years.

The Kowloon RugbyFest will be held on the 3rd April (Wed) at King's Park.
