Match Report: HKCC Ladies A 4-4 HKFC A

Last weekend, the HKCC Ladies A Team defined the meaning of “bringing your A game” by doing just that with a brilliant game vs HKFC A.

The HKCC ladies came out firing with a cracking start to the first half. Playing with confidence and composure to stun the somewhat perennial league winners.

Unfortunately for the home team, HKFC managed to score the first goal of the game but a quick response with a short corner conversion from Ais leveled the scores at 1-1.

An even contest ensued with both teams looking dangerous up front and while some spectacular saves from Jaz in the box frustrated their forwards, they were able to send another one into the back of the net before half time, inching ahead 2-1.

Both teams came out with determination after the break with Rachael and Captain Brig looking particularly strong defensively. Leading from the front as always, Brigitte even managed to save a goal behind the goalkeeper just before it entered the goal much to the entertainment of the fantastic crowd.

Unfortunately, the attacking pressure from HKFC was too strong and they were able to score again giving them the biggest lead of the game.

To the credit of HKCC, the girls kept their heads up and within a few minutes Ais had the ball alone on the forward line. The HKCC supporters roared as Ais showed skill and composure to beat a defender and the goalie to slot her second goal into the bottom corner.

Full highlights:

The tide had turned again and HKCC were putting the pressure up front, it was only a few minutes later when Revs crossed the ball to the hot spot at the front of the goals and Becky skillfully nudged the ball past the goalie to equalize the scores for the second time at 3-3.

Keeping all of the supporters on the edge of their seats, HKFC once again notched up another goal, to lead 4-3 with less than 10 minutes to go.

This time it was 2017 recruit Lisanne “Lasagna” Elfring who scored her maiden HKCC goal off the pads to send it past the opposition goalie’s right foot and level the scores for the final time.

A final score line of 4-4 was fair and our team will take a huge amount of confidence from this game into next week when we begin playing teams for the second time.

Other special mentions for this game are:

- Shaz and Kath who both played well, with their commitment at training and off the pitch translating into huge improvement this season.

- Newbie Olivia Fearn holding her own after being thrown into the deep end against tough opposition in her inaugural game for HKCC.
