The former Citizen AA forward was the centre of media attention last summer, after announcing her decision to put pen to paper with Brisbane Roar in what was viewed as a huge step in the right direction for women's football in Hong Kong.
As one of three debutants for the two-time W-League winners on Friday, the onus was on the 26-year-old to stand out and impress the home crowd.
Obligingly, Cheung was in full flow as she put in a clinical performance in the Australian side's 3-1 triumph over Sydney FC.
If the Hong Konger ever felt the weight of expectation, she certainly thrived on it by threatening the Sydney goal with a number of shots on target early on, as well as baffling opposition defenders with her movement on and off the ball.
However, her decisive contribution to the game came in the closing stages of the first half, as she embarked on a cutting run down the left wing before firing in a pinpoint cross at Allira Toby for Brisbane's second.
In her second game against Perth Glory on Sunday, Cheung was in the right place at the right time as defender Clare Polkinghorne's header glanced off her back to completely wrongfoot the Glory goalkeeper, though it was not nearly enough to rescue a 4-1 loss.
Favourites to win a third championship, Brisbane will no doubt hope for more of the same from Cheung in games to come.
