Match Report: HKCC B 4-0 KCC B

We got ourselves back on track this week with a strong victory in the sunshine against KCC. We are now 4 from 5 and starting to play some good hockey.

Certainly not the finished article and chances continue to go awry, but with 12 points already (the same as last season year end total) team spirit is high!

We started briskly on Sunday and a few chances and short corners went begging, before a lucky miscued cross from Erol found the backboard to give us a 1-0 advantage.

With a few travelling, we welcomed back Billy for a run out and asked a lot of some of the squad to play a bit longer than planned, and perhaps out of position (Jem).

It is this team spirit and hard work that is winning us games. We played really nice hockey in the 1st half, moving the ball around the back, using the pivot that is Jenko to distribute from the middle and created chances and half time saw us retain our 1 goal advantage.

Video highlights:

We came out flying in the 2nd half and young Tom started to expose their increasingly tired left back.

After Blandy air-shotted a few, he realised that aiming for the middle of the 3 balls he was seeing was the way to go. This strategy duly worked and the big lad found himself another 3 goals to the good.

4-0, 2nd in the league, a healthy goal difference tally and an even better defensive record (Poor Lorenz did not touch the ball this last match) is brilliant.

We have a tougher (on paper/league standing) few matches coming up, but there is no reason we cannot continue this rich vein of form. Onwards and upwards we hope!

Finally a big thank you to the Ladies section, Men's C and Men's A teams who watched and cheered our match from the sidelines. We really appreciated the support!
